Does learning early ensure a successful future? (2 posts)

Does the fact that the children who are advanced in learning compared to others of the same age group, ensure that they are more successful even during adulthood? Many kids at the age of 10 and above who were earlier slow learners catch up with their peers who have been advanced in learning, reading, walking etc and are also known to perform better than them. So is stressing on learning something advanced at an early age necessary? Please share your experiences and views. Please do read the post on Hothouse Parenting to know more about this.

    Hi Sonia,
Great topic. We as moms are contsantly under pressure to ensure our kids do well in their adulthoods. We are told laying the right foundation is in our hands. (yeah, no pressure :)).
I believe children go through different stages, meaning at some point they might be into sports, at some point they might be more into just playign with friends. As parents, if we force them, we might be pushing them away from all possible goodness. The challenge we need to overcome is how do we make academics more fun? I have seen the earlier the child reads, the easier it is for them to grasp academics and take responsibility for their academics. I have read a lot on the advanatges of early reading and they are numerous. So whether they shine at 10 or before, keep reading with and to them.
Should we force our childrne to read? I do not believe so, rather i read to my children since they were 6 months old. I made it our cuddle up routine and to this day, my teenage daughter loves when we read together. Both my kids love to read. It has helped their concentration, academics and comprehension to name a few things.
I encourage all moms to check out http://indidoll.com/. Cuddle up with your bundle of joy and imbibe in them the joy of reading. To make the story come to life, you have an 18″ doll who is the main character in the story. A fun filled journey all the way and a friend for life for your child.
    Happy reading
